The South Rim is just steps away from the hotel, and although there aren’t any restaurants or bars, both the Bright Angel and El Tovar with several restaurant options are right next door. However during the actual snow storm, the Canyon was not visible, but once the snow stopped the Canyon was right there sparkling with snow caps. Located in between the Bright Angel Lodge and the El Tovar, the Thunderbird Lodge offers 55 rooms, many of which have partial canyon views. It snowed on our 2nd day, and it was beautiful. Make reservations in advance for El Tovar as it is only restaurant open inside the Canyon, but there are other places to eat right at the gate as well as a general store. recommend requesting and paying a bit more for canyon-view rooms. There are lines to get into the Canyon daily that you will avoid, and the mornings are less crowded. Kachina Lodge, like the neighboring Thunderbird Lodge, is a clean and contemporary. Tips: stay at one of the Lodges if visiting for more than a day, its do worth it.
To wake up to this for three days was refreshing. And once outside the room, the Canyon was just steps away, I loved it. many of the rooms at Thunderbird Lodge have partial canyon views available, called canyon-side rooms. We stayed 3 nights in room 6235 and the location was phenomenal.
